Submitting a caregiver referral correctly ensures you receive the bonus if the candidate is hired. So, be sure to watch this one-minute video or access the Quick Reference Guide to learn the simple steps before you make a referral.

Important reminders: For a referral to be captured in the Genesis application system, the referred applicant needs to apply using the referral application link sent to them from the referring caregiver via email. An applicant cannot be referred to a position they have already applied to.

Tiered bonus

Caregivers can receive between $500 and $3,000 for each eligible referral hire they make—and there’s no limit on how many referrals you can make or how much you can earn.

The program has tiered bonuses, which went into effect August 1, 2025, depending on the role you’re referring to.

What positions are eligible for a referral bonus?

Most external-hire positions, except:
1. Positions below 0.5 FTE
2. Executive director level positions and above
3. RN residents
4. Provider positions

When will I receive my referral bonus?

Once the referred caregiver completes 14 days of employment, the referral program team will verify eligibility requirements and submit a processing request to payroll.

Can I refer an existing (internal) caregiver?

Yes and no. While you are able to refer an existing caregiver in Genesis, you are only eligible for a bonus if your referral is an external hire.

Affiliates of Providence and our family of organizations, including rehires and travelers/contractors, are not considered referral bonus eligible candidates unless they have been away from the organization for more than 12 months.
